Bupa Cromwell Hospital orthopaedic surgeon Mr John Hardy tells Mail Online about a 45-minute procedure that can end the pain of gout

Around a million Britons have gout, but there is an operation which can help end the excruciating pain caused by this most common form of arthritis.

Mr Hardy says the operation "takes around takes around 45 minutes, under general anaesthetic. Because the anaesthetic is so light, the patient is up and about immediately and can go home an hour or so after surgery."
