After your procedure will be taken to the recovery area and then, when appropriate, back to your room. The nurses will monitor you and advise you when you can eat and drink, and get out of bed.
While you are recovering, it may be appropriate for you to be seen by some of our specialist staff, for example the wound care nurse or a dietician or physiotherapist. You can talk to your consultant or nurse about this.
Your discharge from hospital
Your consultant and the nursing staff will decide when it is right for you to go home and will discuss this with you.
They will also talk to you about any ongoing care that you may need and any follow-up appointments. If you need any medicine to take home, this will be prepared for you by the pharmacy.
Leaving the hospital
On the day that you are leaving the hospital, we ask that you plan to leave your room by 11.00am, unless you are being treated as a day-case patient.
Please arrange for someone to collect you and take you home. If you have any concerns about your health once you are at home, please contact the ward or your consultant. If the situation is urgent you should go accident and emergency department at your local hospital.
