Gulmay Therapy

Gulmary Therapy uses low energy (orthovoltage) x-rays to treat both malignant and non-malignant (benign) conditions that are found both on the skin and in the bone. Conditions treated include:

  • Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
  • Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
  • Mycosis Fungoides (T cell lymphoma)
  • Bone metastases - ribs, sternum
  • Metastatic skin nodules

The majority of our patients receive treatment for skin conditions and the relief of pain caused by metastatic disease. The design and operation of the Gulmay unit allows patients to be treated in a position they find comfortable with the machine working around them where possible.

The procedure is painless and typically lasts between one to five minutes depending on the total number of treatments, the prescribed dose and the energy of X-rays being used.

Healthy tissue is protected by materials that block the radiation such as lead. By creating a shaped, lead mask, irregular treatment shapes can be treated.
