New angiography suite
Our newly refurbished angiography suite offers the most up-to-date imaging currently available in London. We are able to carry out the full range of cardiac interventional diagnostics and treatments using stunning quality 3D imaging. Higher quality imaging helps our consultants make a more confident and speedy diagnosis.
What is angiography?
Angiography forms part of the process of diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as coronary heart disease, liver disease, neurovascular conditions, peripheral vascular disease and similar problems.
How does it work?
A small tube (catheter) is inserted into an artery, usually in the leg or arm, and moved to the appropriate position where contrast (dye) can then be injected in order to provide images of the blood vessels.
These pictures are then examined to assist in diagnosis and/or may form the basis for carrying out further treatment.
What can I expect?
Angiography is done as a day-case procedure often with just local anaesthetic.
How is angiography used for heart conditions?
To treat heart disease and weakness, Bupa Cromwell Hospital offers a wide range of investigations and procedures at our angiography suite including:
- percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI balloon treatment) and stenting
- single and dual pacemaker implementation
- biventricular pacemakers
- implantable defibrillator pacemakers
- cardiac resynchronisation therapy
- electro physiological studies
- ablation for cardiac arrhythmias
- flow reserve studies
