This specialty covers the identification and treatment of conditions of the heart and blood vessels. The hospital is a base for world-class cardiovascular specialists including cardiologists, specialist nurses, and technicians using much of the latest equipment available. They provide cardiology services for both adults and children to treat conditions such as:
-
coronary artery disease
Symptoms can include angina (heart pain), heart attack, arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) and heart failure.
-
congenital heart disease
-
heart valve disease
Non-invasive cardiac tests
Our cardiac physiologists are often able to evaluate the condition of your heart and diagnose problems without performing surgery. All investigations are performed by highly trained specialists and include:
- electrocardiograms (ECGs) (resting and conventional treadmill)
Records the electrical activity of the heart.
- ECGs / Holter
Provides 24-hour, one to seven day heart monitoring.
- stress echo imaging
Measures motion in the walls of the heart.
- echocardiograms with Doppler
Provides 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.
Minimally-invasive cardiac tests and treatment
For some conditions it will be necessary to perform minimally-invasive tests and treatments. These include:
- bubble studies
A blood and salt solution containing tiny air bubbles is injected into an arm vein, tracing blood-flow to the heart, to reveal if there are any holes in the heart.
- Myoview exercise tests
A substance is injected into the bloodstream enabling a special camera to measure how much of the material reaches the heart.
- angiography
Liquid dye is injected through a small tube; this makes the arteries more easily visible by X-ray.
