This specialty covers the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of problems of the joints, bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. It also covers treatment of trauma injuries such as those acquired following a fall or other accident, including fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries.
What is orthopaedic surgery?
Orthopaedic surgeons specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of problems of the musculoskeletal system - joints, bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. Surgeons specialise in certain areas of the body - lower limb (hips and knees or foot and ankle), upper limb (shoulder and elbow or hand) and spine. Treatment may be surgical or non- surgical depending on your diagnosis.
What is trauma surgery?
Trauma surgery covers 'impact' injuries including fractures and dislocations as well as soft tissue injuries. Trauma surgeons will tend to cover musculoskeletal injuries to the whole body excluding injuries to the head, chest, abdomen or blood vessels.
Benefits of orthopaedic and trauma surgery at Bupa Cromwell Hospital
We provide an extensive orthopaedic service. Our specialist multi-disciplinary orthopaedic team incorporates highly experienced consultants, many of who are leaders in their fields, together with advanced diagnostic equipment such as X-ray, MRI, ultrasound and CT scans, all run by expert technicians. The department is also supported by our physiotherapists both pre- and post-operatively.
We have orthopaedic clinics every day from Monday through to Saturday and you can often be seen on the same day. If you need any diagnostic tests such as an X-ray or an MRI scan, these can all be carried out on-site, often on the same day.
We have consultants who practise across a range of orthopaedic and trauma surgery, and those who specialise in particular areas of the body. More information on the different areas of specialty are available in the drop down menu below.
