This specialty covers the diagnosis and treatment of children with spinal deformities due to the following conditions:
- congenital scoliosis and kyphosis
- developmental kyphosis or Scheurmanns disease
- idiopathic scoliosis
- neuromuscular scoliosis
- pain in the growing spine
- spinal injuries
- spinal tumours
We use the most modern imaging techniques available, including high resolution MRI scanning. All patients are assessed by a multidisciplinary team, including paediatricians, paediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons.
Your child will be admitted to the paediatric ward and introduced to the team that will be looking after them. Our dedicated paediatric theatres are equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for correcting spinal deformity and comprehensive spinal cord monitoring is always used.
After surgery your child will be routinely admitted to our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, where a team of nurses and physiotherapists will help them to improve their mobility.
