We provide a dedicated service to diagnose and manage causes of sleep disturbance. The clinic is principally involved with respiratory disturbances such as sleep apnoea, although we also investigate other causes of excessive sleepiness.
The services are provided by a team of technicians and consultants. All investigations are undertaken by technical staff who monitor patients continuously throughout the sleep study.
Services
Full Polysomnography
Polysomnography is used to assess disorders of sleep such as:
-
excessive daytime sleepiness
-
longer or deeper than usual night time sleep
-
narcolepsy or inappropriate daytime sleeping
-
sleep apnoea - cessation of breathing for longer than ten seconds.
Polysomnagraphy recording
Results of my polysomnography
We give a full written report to the referring consultant, normally within two or three days.
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) measurement
This test can be undertaken with polysomnagraphy or on its own where patients undertake a test at home using an instrument which monitors the breathing and vibration in the breath and changes in the pressure of air they take in. The instrument then adjusts the pressure to maintain optimal breathing.
Sleep related disorders
Other sleep disorders which our experienced sleep specialist and clinical physiologists investigate include restless leg syndrome, periodic leg movements as well as parasomnias, including sleep walking and night terrors.
If I need further treatment
Depending on the results of assessment and treatment, we can refer you on to the appropriate multidisciplinary team at the hospital.
Access to treatment
We accept referrals from GPs and paediatricians.
