Coronavirus

Procedures in place following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last updated: October 2023

Due to a rise in Covid-19 cases across the UK, we have introduced some additional measures to ensure patient and employee safety.

The health, wellbeing, and safety of our patients, their families, and our people is our priority. At Cromwell Hospital, we uphold the highest standards of infection control to minimise the risk of transmission of Covid-19 and other infectious illnesses.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the hospital is operating as normal. We encourage patients and visitors to observe infection-control measures, such as frequent hand sanitisation. You should also avoid coming into the hospital if feeling unwell.

Attending the hospital

From Monday 2 October 2023, all inpatients and daycase patients are required to carry out a lateral flow test (LFT) upon admission to the hospital.

If you are visiting an inpatient, you will be required to wear a mask. This does not apply to carers or companions, or those visiting outpatients. For visiting hours and other information, please see our dedicated webpage.

Your temperature will be checked automatically upon entry to the hospital, using a thermal digital camera.

Unless you are visiting an inpatient, you do not need to wear a face mask when attending the hospital. However, face masks will be available should you wish to use one.

We encourage you to sanitise your hands, particularly when entering the hospital, to help reduce the risk of transmission of infectious illnesses. There are hand sanitising stations located throughout the building.

What to do if you're feeling unwell

If you have any respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms, or you suspect you have Covid-19, please inform your consultant or their secretary before attending the hospital.

The primary symptoms of Covid-19 are:

  • high temperature or shivering (chills)
  • a new, continuous cough – coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

If you have had Covid-19 within seven weeks of your scheduled procedure, please let your consultant or their secretary know so we can advise you further.

If you are experiencing any lasting side effects following Covid-19, please also make your consultant aware.
