About Dr Atul Gupta
Dr Atul Gupta is a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and is the Clinical Lead of Service for the Children’s Respiratory Service at the King's College Hospital, London.
Dr Atul Gupta trained in Paediatrics on the Yorkshire & Newcastle upon Tyne Paediatric training rotation. He was then awarded one of the few recognised UK Higher Specialist Training posts in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine in London. Dr Atul Gupta trained in Respiratory Paediatrics in some of the UK’s leading teaching hospitals: Royal Brompton Hospital, Freeman Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Dr Atul Gupta, therefore, has dual accreditation and is on the specialist register for both General Paediatrics and Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. He was subsequently awarded a research degree (MDRes) in role of vitamin D in severe asthma, at Imperial College London
Dr Atul Gupta's clinical and research interests are in children with complex/life-limiting respiratory disorders, which is a public health priority. Focussed on novel treatments, investigating the mechanisms and identification of novel therapies, he works as a Research & Innovation lead. His research has focussed on the key areas for the NHS & has transformed clinical practice, by enabling patients who previously had limited safe and effective options. His research has contributed to the licensing of new asthma medications.
Dr Atul Gupta has published more than 160 peer reviewed papers including papers in leading journals like Lancet & New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). He has written chapters for Paediatric Respiratory books and has written reviews on all aspects of paediatric respiratory. He chairs south-east London Asthma Network.
Dr Gupta has also received the following awards: Lorber Prize awarded by the Royal College Of Paediatrics and Child Health; Asthma UK travel fellowship & British Lung Foundation travel fellowship; The James Fellowship awarded by the British Medical Association; VASR Memorial Gold Medal & S.S Manchanda Research Gold Medal.
Dr Atul Gupta provides a range of clinical services for infants, children and young adults with breathing problems such as: severe asthma, chronic cough, recurrent chest infections, coughing, wheezing, lung diseases, allergies, hay fever, Sleep apnoea / Sleep study.
