Malignant pleural mesothelioma, lung cancer, thymoma, mediastinal tumours, neuroendocrine tumours including carcinoids, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, chest wall tumours, sarcomas, pleural empyema and infections, emphysema/lung volume reduction, pectus excavatum and carinatum


Prof Lang-Lazdunski qualified from Xavier Bichat Medical School, University of Paris in 1991 and trained in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery in the Paris rotation. After a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School, Boston, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Paris.

Prof Lang-Lazdunski was recruited as consultant thoracic surgeon at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in 2003, where he created and developed one of the largest mesothelioma programs worldwide and created a large VATS lobectomy program for lung cancer. He also acted as national consultant for advanced-stage or complex thymic tumours. He was promoted Professor of Thoracic Surgery (Chair in Mesothelioma) at King’s College London in 2012.

Prof Lang-Lazdunski has published more than 120 scientific articles and contributed to many medical textbooks. He has given numerous invited lectures at national and international meetings and is frequently invited as visiting professor to lecture and operate abroad.

He is considered as a world expert in malignant pleural mesothelioma and minimally-invasive thoracic surgery and has been a member of many scientific boards or expert groups. he has participated in many international or national surgical trials.

Prof Lang-Lazdunski works with several colleagues, who are considered experts in thoracic oncology or chest medicine. His outcomes in mesothelioma surgery are regularly audited and presented and are among the best ever published to date, with many patients surviving well more than 5 years following surgery.

In his free time he likes playing tennis or windsurfing.
