This specialty covers the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of problems of the joints, bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves affecting babies, and children up to 16 years of age.
Orthopaedic surgery also covers treatment of injuries such as following a fall or other accident, including fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries through to highly complex surgery.

We provide an extensive orthopaedic service. Our specialist multi-disciplinary orthopaedic team incorporates highly experienced consultants and advanced diagnostic equipment such as MRI and CT scans, done by expert technicians.
We have consultants who practice across a range of paediatric orthopaedic and trauma surgery who specialise in the treatment of children.
Conditions we treat include:
- foot and ankle conditions including congenital foot deformities and flat foot; club foot is treated in our weekly specialist Ponseti Clinic
- hand deformities
- hip disorders such as: ‘limping child’; dysplasia; fractures and dislocations; irritation; Perthes disease
- infections of the bone and joint
- knock knees
- bowed legs and slipped upper femoral epiphysis
- spinal deformities including scoliosis
Your child can recover comfortably in our children-only Skyline Ward. Our 14 inpatient rooms are spacious and all have ensuite bathrooms, TV and DVD player, and WiFi. The Skyline playroom is bright and colourful with lots of toys and activities.
Many children also benefit from physiotherapy in our purpose-designed gym to help restore movement and function.
Please note that we do not provide a paediatric intensive care unit at Bupa Cromwell Hospital. However, any deteriorating child will be quickly assessed and stabilised by a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) trained in paediatric intensive care, supported by an on-call Paediatric Intensive Care Consultant, before being transferred to the most appropriate paediatric intensive care provider by the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS).
