Children's plastic surgery

This speciality covers plastic and reconstructive surgery in children with conditions that can be surgically treated to improve their quality of life Bupa Cromwell Hospital has a team of consultant plastic surgeons who have experienced in treating children with conditions such as:

  • vascular and pigmented birth marks and, or  moles
  • congenital ear abnormalities

  • post-trauma and cancer reconstructions

More specialist areas we treat include:

In paediatric plastic surgery, our consultants work as a team with their chosen paediatric anaesthetist and, if required, with our specialist nursing staff in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Following surgery, the patient’s consultant will liaise closely with our highly trained team of specialist paediatric nurses, who monitor and care for the children’s needs. The resident medical officers, dedicated to the paediatric ward, provide constant medical care and cover.

Depending on the condition, the plastic surgery team will also work closely with the hospital’s clinical specialists including:

  • speech and language therapists
  • physiotherapists
  • occupational therapists
  • nutrition and dietetic service
  • diabetic service
  • general paediatric medicine

Please note that we do not provide a paediatric intensive care unit at Bupa Cromwell Hospital. However, any deteriorating child will be quickly assessed and stabilised by a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) trained in paediatric intensive care, supported by an on-call Paediatric Intensive Care Consultant, before being transferred to the most appropriate paediatric intensive care provider by the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS).
