Children's endocrinology

Paediatric endocrinologists look after children with hormone and development disorders.

Our leading paediatric endocrinologists treat children with a range of metabolic, growth and endocrine diseases.

Early detection of these conditions is key, and our paediatric endocrinologists offer an integrated diagnostic and treatment service, with access to other specialists in the hospital including vascular surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, ophthalmologists and cardiologists.

We also manage a range of endocrine diseases including thyroid disease and pituitary disorders. And if your child is diabetic, we offer a comprehensive care programme, including nutrition advice from our dieticians.

Conditions we treat include:

  • adrenal diseases
  • calcium and bone disease including osteoporosis
  • electrolyte and acid-based disorders
  • inherited metabolic diseases
  • lipid disorders
  • metabolic diseases including: diabetes
  • obesity
  • thyroid disorders and tumours

Our specialist consultants

Please note that we do not provide a paediatric intensive care unit at Cromwell Hospital. However, any deteriorating child will be quickly assessed and stabilised by a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) trained in paediatric intensive care, supported by an on-call Paediatric Intensive Care Consultant, before being transferred to the most appropriate paediatric intensive care provider by the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS).

"I would like to thank everyone at Cromwell Hospital for the fantastic way you looked after me. I could not fault anyone during the time I spent with you - from the point I arrived in reception, to the catering team and every member of staff throughout the changes of shift during my stay."
