Children's plastic surgery

Providing surgical and reconstructive treatment to improve a child's quality of life.

Our team of consultant paediatric plastic surgeons treat children with a range of general and complex conditions.

Caring and experienced, they carry out surgery for conditions such as:

Cromwell Hospital has a team of consultant plastic surgeons who have experience in treating children with conditions such as:

  • vascular and pigmented birth marks and, or  moles
  • congenital ear abnormalities
  • scars
  • post-trauma and cancer reconstructions

Many of our paediatric surgeons have sub-specialties in more complex conditions. These include conditions such as:

  • congenital hand deformities
  • cleft lip and palate
  • speech abnormalities
  • chest wall deformities
  • facial palsy

In paediatric plastic surgery, our consultants work as a team with their chosen paediatric anaesthetist and, if required, with our specialist nursing staff in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Following surgery, the patient’s consultant will liaise closely with our highly trained team of specialist paediatric nurses, who monitor and care for the children’s needs. The resident medical officers, dedicated to the paediatric ward, provide constant medical care and cover.

Multidisciplinary team

Your child's consultant will work with a wider team of specialists from across the hospital, so that your child receives the best possible care.

These clinical specialists might include speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and nutritionists, depending on your child's condition.

Why choose us?

At Cromwell Hospital, you can expect:

  • leading paediatric surgeons
  • expertise in specialist conditions
  • multidisciplinary team of clinical specialists

Please note that we do not provide a paediatric intensive care unit at Cromwell Hospital. However, any deteriorating child will be quickly assessed and stabilised by a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) trained in paediatric intensive care, supported by an on-call Paediatric Intensive Care Consultant, before being transferred to the most appropriate paediatric intensive care provider by the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS).

"I would like to thank everyone at Cromwell Hospital for the fantastic way you looked after me. I could not fault anyone during the time I spent with you - from the point I arrived in reception, to the catering team and every member of staff throughout the changes of shift during my stay."
