Lithotripsy and shockwave therapy

The London Lithotripter Centre at Cromwell Hospital provides extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT).

About lithotripsy and shockwave therapy

Based at Cromwell Hospital and operated by Impact Medical, the London Lithotripter Centre was established in 2003 as the only independent private lithotripsy service in central London. Today, we provide expert-led lithotripsy and shockwave therapy for a range of orthopaedic and urological conditions.

Situated within its own dedicated suite of rooms, our specialist team uses state-of-the-art equipment and diagnostics to ensure that patients receive the best possible care in a private and comfortable environment. A Wolf Piezolith 3000 is used for the treatment which, in a study by Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, was proved to be the most effective compared to a number of other models.

With a history of excellence and innovation, our expert team of specialist radiographers have over 150 years of combined experience, and have been responsible for key developments in the field of shockwave and the treatment of kidney stones.

The London Lithotripter Centre benefits from minimal wait times and clinicians do not require admitting rights to refer patients into the service, making it convenient and easy to access.

Patients require a referral from a GP or consultant before they can access lithotripsy services.

Clinicians do not need Cromwell Hospital admitting rights to refer patients into the service.

For referring clinicians, please email patient referrals to lithotripsy@cromwellhospital.com.
